Print exam packets

Open Print

Open an exam and select Print in the exam workflow. Print uses the displayed Administration version. Its published packet PDF must be available before packets can be downloaded or generated.

The workspace separates Master packet from Individual packets. Select the small i control for the on-screen packet explanation.

Choose a packet type

Type Before the exam During scanning Best use
Master packet Download one PDF and print as many physical copies as needed. Students handwrite names. Each student's scanned group must start with the master title page and remain inside one PDF member. Fast printing when pages can be kept in strict student groups.
Numbered packets Generate a count. Each logical packet has a unique number and QR labels; give each student a different packet and print it once. Pages may arrive in any order or separate files. Confirm handwritten-name roster matches after scanning. Robust anonymous distribution.
Named packets Select active roster students. Each packet prints that student's name and has unique QR labels. Pages auto-link to the named student and may arrive in any order. Preassigned seating/distribution with a final roster.

Named reprinting reuses the student's existing packet identity and QR labels. Do not give the same numbered packet to multiple students. Printing an unused packet does not by itself create a grading problem.

Master packet

The master is built automatically after publication. When ready, select Download master packet. Printing more physical copies does not create a batch. Each scanned student group becomes a packet during scanning.

Master scanning is less tolerant of grouping mistakes: keep each student's pages together, begin with that student's title page, do not duplicate a page inside the group, and do not split a group across PDFs. Use individual numbered or named packets for more robust page-level identification.

If master generation failed, Retry published artifacts retries the version-owned artifacts without creating a new version.

Individual packet batch

Open Individual packets and choose Mode:

  • Numbered: enter Packet count.
  • Named: select active students; section and visible-row selection controls can help choose the roster subset.

Optionally enter a Label, then select Generate Batch. Only one batch for an exam version can be queued, running, or cancelling at a time. The table shows progress, mode, packet count or range, status, creation time, and actions.

A successful batch provides:

  • a combined PDF containing all packets;
  • a ZIP containing individual packet PDFs.

Numbered ranges can be discontinuous when numbers from cancelled batches are reused.

Cancel, archive, and restore

Select Cancel for a queued or running batch, then wait for its status to become Cancelled.

Archiving a successful batch hides it from the main print list without changing its packets, scans, grading, or reports. Expand show archived batches to find and restore it. Failed batches use the displayed cleanup action.

Physical printing rules

  • Print at actual size; do not crop, scale, cover, or redraw QR labels.
  • Test a sample packet before a large print run.
  • For named and numbered packets, page separation during scanning is acceptable because every response label carries packet identity.
  • For master packets, physical and scanned grouping around each title page is essential.
  • Retain the original exams until scanning, matching, and grading are complete.

Print exam packets

The Print page is pinned to the displayed administration version and shows master-packet generation plus individual packet batches. Instructors can choose eligible packet types and students, start generation, download successful artifacts, request cancellation, archive completed batches, or restore archived batches. Printing controls do not change exam content or roster identity.
