Accessibility Statement

Our commitment

Avian Educational Software, Inc., the operator of Gradebird, is committed to making Gradebird usable by people with disabilities. We incorporate accessibility into product design, engineering, testing, and remediation work and welcome feedback about barriers.

Standards and evaluation

Gradebird's web application and primary HTML student-report experience were evaluated against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level A and Level AA. The July 2026 evaluation included source and template inspection, automated accessibility testing, keyboard testing, NVDA and VoiceOver review, browser zoom and reflow checks, contrast sampling, and review of representative errors and status messages.

This statement describes the evaluated product and its known limitations. It is not a claim that every Gradebird feature or every item of instructor-provided content fully conforms to WCAG.

Evaluated accessibility features

• Keyboard-operable web navigation and controls in the evaluated workflows
• A skip link, visible keyboard focus, headings, and page landmarks
• Programmatic control names, form-error associations, and status announcements
• Support for browser zoom and responsive reflow in the evaluated web workflows
• Reduced-motion support for nonessential animation and transitions
• A primary HTML student report containing the current textual scores, rubrics, notices, and assessments

Known limitations

Gradebird supports workflows involving printed exams and scanned handwritten work. Some parts of those workflows are inherently visual:

• Printed-exam layout verification, scan review, and interpretation of handwriting do not currently support independent nonvisual completion.
• Scanned handwriting and exact question snapshots are images and do not have complete text equivalents.
• Representative rendered mathematics was not read reliably during internal screen-reader testing.
• Instructor-authored diagrams, uploaded assets, mathematics, and other visual content may not include complete accessible alternatives.
• Exam and packet PDFs are designed as print artifacts and have not been demonstrated to be tagged accessible electronic assessments.

Accessible reports and accommodations

The HTML student report is Gradebird's primary accessible student-facing report. Its optional PDF is intended for printing. Question snapshots and handwriting retain the image limitations described above in both formats.

Institutions remain responsible for providing appropriate accommodated assessment formats and authorized assistance where a visual paper or handwriting workflow is not independently usable. If you encounter a Gradebird barrier, we will work with you and, when appropriate, your institution to identify an available alternative.

To report an accessibility barrier, request assistance, or ask about Gradebird's accessibility documentation, email compliance@gradebird.com. Please include the page or workflow, what you were trying to do, and the browser or assistive technology you used, if you are comfortable sharing that information. We aim to acknowledge accessibility messages within five business days.
