Ask Gradebird help assistant

The authenticated Gradebird application can provide an Ask Gradebird assistant when your organization has enabled it. Gradebird introduces itself, answers questions about how the app works, and can recommend a documented workflow for your circumstances. It does not inspect live course records, student work, scans, grades, or exam content.

Open and close the assistant

On an ordinary signed-in application page, find the Gradebird icon in the lower-right corner.

  • Select the icon to expand the assistant.
  • Select Minimize in the assistant header to return to the Gradebird icon.
  • Select Close to hide the icon and assistant.
  • To reopen a closed assistant, open the account menu in the upper-right corner and select Chatbot.
  • On a desktop-sized screen, the assistant remains anchored in the lower-right. Drag its top edge, left edge, or upper-left corner to resize it. For precise keyboard resizing, focus the upper-left resize control and use the arrow keys. The selected desktop size is retained on that device.

Minimizing or closing the assistant does not delete a conversation. On a phone or other narrow screen, the expanded assistant occupies most of the screen; press Escape or use Minimize to return to the page.

If the icon and account-menu item are absent, the assistant is not available for that account or page. The regular Documentation link remains available.

Ask a question

  1. Open the assistant.
  2. Select Start new chat if no conversation is open or if you want a separate topic. If an unused new chat already exists, Gradebird opens and focuses that chat instead of creating another one.
  3. Enter a question about a Gradebird instructor workflow. Press Enter or select Send to submit it. Press Shift+Enter to add a new line without submitting.
  4. Leave the conversation open while the answer is prepared, or continue working and return later. Closing the widget does not cancel an answer.

Only one answer can be pending in a conversation at a time. The assistant can compare documented options and offer practical advice. It may direct you to support when a question depends on account-specific information or undocumented behavior.

The message history scrolls inside the assistant. Scrolling a long conversation does not scroll the application page behind it.

Sources and scope

The assistant answers from the published instructor help and recent messages in the same chat. It may include one Source link when opening a specific help article would be useful. It does not inspect the course, exam, student, or other record currently displayed behind the assistant.

The assistant cannot:

  • look up a course, student, exam, packet, scan, score, or account setting;
  • perform an application action;
  • search the public web;
  • explain undocumented organization-administration procedures; or
  • guarantee behavior that is not established by the linked documentation.

Use Documentation to browse directly. You can always email Gradebird support.

Ask support to follow up

When Gradebird cannot resolve a question from the documentation, select Ask support to follow up about this chat. The text below the button shows the account email support will use to contact you.

Gradebird records one follow-up request for the saved chat and notifies support. Support can review the chat and contact you at your account email address.

If the notification cannot be delivered, the request remains recorded and Gradebird provides the configured support email so you can contact support directly. Repeated confirmation does not create another request or send another notification for the same chat.

Report a chatbot problem

Each completed Gradebird answer has a subtle Report a problem control beneath it. Open the control, choose the description that best fits, and select Send report. The available categories cover an incorrect answer, a response that did not answer the question, an unclear or overly long response, an unhelpful source link, and another problem.

The report contains only the selected category; there is no free-text field. Submitting a problem report does not send another chatbot message or contact support. Email Gradebird support or use the confirmed follow-up action when you need a response.

Saved conversations

Use the conversation list on the left side of the expanded assistant to reopen one of your most recent chats. Gradebird derives each conversation title from its first question. Use Start new chat when you want a separate conversation.

The widget shows a recent subset of your conversations. It does not provide rename or deletion controls.
